Create a look that is timeless not time-consuming
Tips from the Pros:
Nick Barose (Clarins Celebrity Makeup Artist)
When creating beauty in a flash, no one does it better than Nick Barose. With busy celebrity clients such as Mischa Barton and Hilary Duff, he knows flaunting the perfect face should be timeless not time-consuming. Celebrity or not, we all want to look our best in as little time as possible. Nick shares his tips on how to maximize your makeup routine in under five minutes.
Start your beauty regimen every morning by wearing makeup primer to fill in lines and improve skin’s texture, such as Clarins Instant Smooth Perfecting Touch ($27.50, clarins.com). This is a real-time saver, making skin even so you don’t have to correct with foundation, powder or concealer. If you can’t live without foundation, opt to use a stick foundation that can also be used as a concealer. Apply with fingers for ease and quickness. Layer on more where you need extra coverage and blend with lotion for those areas that don’t require as much. Next, dust sheer powder bronzer around the perimeter of the face to give skin a healthy glow. When adding color, choose a multi-use product for eyes, cheeks and lips, such as NARS The Multiple ($36.50, sephora.com). Another option for the eyes is to dot powdery eye liner pencil along the lash line in place of eye shadow to create definition. To complete the look, apply a curling-formula mascara on your upper lashes. Lower lashes are hard, so it’s better to skip them entirely to avoid unwanted smudges.
Now you’re ready to face the day and all the challenges that come with it. Luckily, your makeup is now not one of them.
The Key Secrets
1. Mix a pea-size drop of Clarins Instant Smooth Perfect Touch ($27.50, clarins.com) with your liquid or crème foundation. Apply to skin for that extra smooth look.
2. Apply a pea-size drop of Clarins Instant Light Skin Perfector ($28, clarins.com) after your lotion and prior to your foundation. Focus on cheek bones, bridge of nose and chin for radiance.
3. With a small, clean eye liner brush, apply Clarins Soft Cream Colour Eyeshadow ($17.50, clarins.com) in a shimmery bone shade or pearlized tone above your black liner and along your lower lash line. This helps capture light making eyes appear more vibrant.
Step 1: Moisturize
Start fresh by hydrating the skin with a moisturizer. Apply evenly to face, leaving no spot untouched.
Step 2: Conceal
Apply a concealer under and around eyes and on problem areas. Follow with a light foundation to the face for overall coverage, or better yet, follow our expert’s suggestion and use a concealer and foundation in one.
Step 3: Awaken
Use an eye shadow palette that features both soft matte and shimmering finishes for lids and lining eyes, such as Bobbi Brown’s Stonewash Nude Eye Palette ($50, bobbibrown.com). Go with a light shade on the eyelid and under the brow, but use a darker tone for the crease. Finish the eyes with mascara. For a natural look, choose a color closer to your coloring. Here we used Trish McEvoy’s Auburn ($26, Nordstrom.com).
Step 4: Blush
Sweep on a blush to the apples of your cheeks. Remember to keep it simple and light. The idea is to look as though you’re really blushing, not caked in makeup.
Step 5: Color
Smile bright with a colored gloss on the lips, such as Bobbi Brown’s Shimmer Lip Gloss in Stonewashed Nude ($19, bobbibrown.com). It highlights the natural tone of your lips and can be used alone or layered over lipstick for a richer pout.
