How to Get a Loan With Limited or No Credit History

iQuanti: We can all use a little help with our finances once in a while. If you have limited or no credit history though, it can be challenging to get lender approval. And with that said, depending on your needs and financial situation, you may still be able to get approved for a personal loan.

Is limited or no credit the same as bad credit?

No. If you have no credit score, it doesn't necessarily mean that you have bad credit. It mostly means there is no record of how you act as a borrower. Every lender has different business practices they follow, and some lenders need to see a credit history before letting someone borrow money from them. Fortunately, though, there are financial providers that will lend you money, even with little (or without any) credit history.

Is it possible to get a loan with no credit?

Yes. If you're looking for a loan but don't have a credit score, you may still be able to qualify for certain lenders' terms. Some lenders understand that you may not have a credit score if you're new to adulthood, a country, or financial freedom. Without transactional activity, it's impossible to generate an accurate credit score. If you need some help getting a loan, here are some options that you can try:

Find a co-signer. If you can find someone with good credit who is willing to cosign for you, you may be able to get a loan. Remember though, the cosigner will be on the hook for the loan if you default. Make sure you and your family member (or friend) are comfortable with this arrangement before making this agreement.

Get a secured loan. If you own a car or a home, you may be able to get a secured loan using collateral. The downside of this, though, is that you could lose your collateral if you default on the loan.

Apply for a no-credit-check loan. Some lenders will make loans without running a credit check. However, these loans sometimes come with high-interest rates and fees. Each lender comes with its own terms, and you will benefit from understanding these terms before agreeing to partner with a lender.

No matter which option you choose, even with no credit history, there are plenty of ways to get a loan with the right financial support. Don't be afraid to call your lender of choice to ask any questions you may have.
